Back on the Island

This, I promise, will be a short one. Been burning the candle at both ends for the past 4-5 days and am running out of steam. That and the fact that the week ahead, as well as the weekend will be a busy one too is going to have me keeping it brief. However, I did want to write and say how great it was to visit with everyone I did at the snowmobile show in Milwaukee this past weekend. For those that came on Sunday and missed me, sorry, but that was a travel day. Nora and Gracie traveled with me and stayed at my mom’s while I was at the show. Then Grace and I dropped Nora off at a conference she has to attend and continued home. Gracie had school today, so we had to be back last night to be ready for that.

I think I had more folks stop by to say hi this past show than at any other in the past and it was great to be able to see some familiar faces and to meet some new ones! I did almost lose my voice both Friday and Saturday, but it was well work it! It really makes me feel like the website is an extended family and not just something impersonal. It is also so rewarding to have so many folks show their appreciation for the site and all that goes into it. That really helps to make it all worth while and recharge my battery for the upcoming season.

Speaking of the upcoming season, I did publish my seasonal outlook last Thursday the 12th. For those that have not seen it yet, you can get to it by following the link posted on the Forecast Text page. Just please keep in mind it is just barely beyond a pure guess. Most folks at the show that commented to me on it seemed to realize that, but I really do want to drive home the point that the tools available to put together a forecast on a seasonal scale are scant compared to the tools available to forecast for the next week or so.

Also along the lines of the upcoming season, a reminder…the Keweenaw Snowmobile Club is having their annual trail work session this Friday and Saturday, the 20th and 21st. Free lodging for workers is available at the Trailside Lodge just north of Calumet and there will also be a complementary thank-you dinner served by myself Saturday evening after we finish up the work. Lots to do and the weather looks like it is going to be spectacular. Temps in the upper 60’s, maybe even some low 70’s and sunshine. So come on up and enjoy some beautiful autumn weather in the Keweenaw!

The third thing along the lines of the upcoming season is I met up with a computer technician at the Trail Cam today and we got it going. The Woods Cam got fixed last week and the Al Cam will be up and running soon. The Trail Cam 2 is not my camera, but I am sure it will be up and running in time for the season. The new feature to the site is also in beta testing and hopefully will be ready to go in a week or so, so keep an eye out for that. Lots to be excited for!

I am going to call it quits for tonight and hope for lots more energy the next time I sit down to write!
Good night from the Keweenaw..
